I chiriki Chaya first came to our attention two years back and into our list for their basashi – horse sashimi, as our Best Exotic Dish then. Perhaps the ichi — one, and riki — strength of this ochaya or “tea house” is in its zealous adherence to traditional Japanese food preparation with the procedural standards and quality of ingredients it requires. Cultural tradition bleeds into the setup and ambience where guests can enjoy the restaurant’s best sellers such as sashimi, sushi, shabu-shabu, tempura, sukiyaki and so much more on low tables and tatami mats.
